Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is where glitzy skyscrapers and modern K-Pop culture meet traditional Korean architecture and local food markets. If you are in Seoul for only a few days, you should not miss my Seoul 3 day itinerary to make sure that you see all the beautiful places the city has to offer. What are you waiting for? Let’s explore Seoul!
ITINERARY FOR 3 DAYS IN SEOUL
Don’t worry if you just have a short time stay in Seoul. If you are planning your itinerary in advance, you will be still able to get a good impression of the city. Here are my personal highlights in Seoul which no visitor should miss:
FEEL THE INTERNATIONAL VIBES IN ITAEWON
Itaewon is Seoul’s lively neighborhood with a big range of food and shops from all over the world. Make sure to visit Itaewon when you are hungry as you have plenty of great food options! 😉 My insider tip in this area is “Cookie Monster” – a cute cafe which sells the best homemade cookies in town. Not kidding, I found this place on my first day in Seoul and had to come back on my second as I was craving for their great cookies. 😉
You also have great views of Seoul in Itaewon. If you go there in the evening you will be rewarded with a beautiful sunset over the city.
Explore The Traditional Part of Seoul in Jongno Area
The time stands still in Jongno Area. Wandering around old traditional houses feels like you are traveling through time.
Most of the traditional houses you can find in Bukchon Hanok village. In the past this was the village where relatives of the royal family lived because of the close location to the famous Gyeongbokgung palace. Nowadays, around 900 of the “hanok” houses remain with some of them having shops with crafts arts, restaurants, museums or workshops inside. There is a nice trail which ends in Insadong. Keep on reading to see what is going on in Insadong!
ENJOY A TEA IN INSADONG AND EXPERIENCE KOREA”s CULTURE
Insadong is in the heart of Seoul and it is the perfect place to experience the culture of Korea. In the side alleys you can find plenty of traditional Korean restaurants, wooden tea houses, cute coffee shops and art galleries. Your must-do
is trying the traditional Korean dish called Bibimbap. Bibimbap is served as a hot bowl of rice topped with an egg, vegetables, meat and the typical red sauce.
EAT LIKE A LOCAL AT Gwangjang Street Food Market
The second day of my Seoul 3 day itinerary starts at Gwangjang Market. This market is the perfect place for authentic Korean street food. If you are a foodie, don’t miss this place! From seafood to Korean pancakes you can find everything at Gwangjang Market. There are different stalls but you will see that all of them sell similar dishes. Just sit down at one of the stalls and enjoy the delicious food. My favorite dish was Bindaetteok which is a mung bean pancake served with soy onion sauce. And of course you shouldn’t miss to see the famous raw live octopus Sannakji. Served fresh you can still can see the different parts of the octopus wriggling on the plate. Unique experience! The opening hours are from 8.30 am – 6 pm daily.
Take Cool Shots at IHWA Art Village
Also called “Mural Village”, Ihwa Art Village has beautiful street art around the town. Embedded in hills the village is very picturesque and offers charming cafes and breathtaking views above Seoul. You can do a walk around the village, having a coffee, exploring murals and sculpture art. This part of Seoul was seen as a bit of a slum for a long time before the government decided to revitalize the village with paintings and installation art. For me this was one of the coolest places in Seoul!
Ride a Carousel in an Abandoned Amusement Park
Day three of the Seoul 3 day itinerary starts with something very unique. Yongma Land is an abandoned amusement park and the best place for taking special pictures! Opened in 1980 and closed due to loss of profit, the owner of the park allows you nowadays to get in for 5000 Korean Won. The old-school atmosphere of this park is a paradise for all photographers. See here how it looks like:
Explore the trendy HONGDAE AREA
Hongdae area is trendy, vibrant and colorful! It’s a place where trends come from and where the cool kids hang out. In this university area you will find live music on the street, urban art, fashion shops and plenty of restaurants in this area. The best time to go is in the evening when the streets are enlightened by neon signs. Just stroll around and watch the lively neighborhood – it’s worth a visit!
WHERE TO STAY IN SEOUL
During my 3 day trip in Seoul I stayed in G Guesthouse in Itaewon. The hostel provides very simple and basic rooms but everything is clean. The location of G Guesthouse is perfect if you want to follow my Seoul 3 day itinerary as it is in the heart of Itaewon district. From there you can reach all places easily by subway which is just a short hop from the hostel. Big plus: the rooftop terrace with an amazing view above Itaewon! The price per night is US$ 16 in a 6-bed mixed dorm including breakfast. They also have private rooms available!
With this Seoul 3 day itinerary you are prepared for the trip! Check out my other travel tips for Korea.
Happy travels in Seoul!
