Have you ever dreamt about being on a secluded island like Robinson Crusoe? Having the long sand beach covered with hundreds of palm trees all for yourself? Sleeping in a wooden hub at the beach just a stone’s throw away from the sea? If you answered all the question with a “Yes”, Pulau Tuba is the right place for you.
Pulau Tuba is just a 15-minutes boat ride from Langkawi but a hidden treasure. Limited motorised vehicles are permitted on the islands to preserve the natural habitat, making the island the perfect place for adventures.
I stayed at the lovely Wild Pasir Panjang. Surrounded by a mountainous rainforest ruled by monkeys and lizards and located at a deserted beach, this place was truly a paradise. The owner of Wild Pasir Panjang, Gahsri, is just lovely. He takes care about everything, has the best stories to tell and even joins you for some beers in the evening at the beach. His wife Emma is amazing – she was so welcoming and cooked the best Malaysian and Thai food which is served right at the beach. Everything is very simple at Wild Pasir Panjang. Don’t expect a luxury resort with a lot of comfort. The hubs are very basic but clean and equipped with everything you need: a mattress, mosquito net and a bathroom. What else do you need if you’re sleeping right at the beach listening to the waves and sounds from the rainforest?
Once you hike through the rainforest that is located behind the beach at Wild Pasir Panjang, you’ll find the fisher village of Pulau Tuba. Only a few narrow roads lead through rubber plantations and paddy fields to sleepy places at the seaside where fishermen live in simple houses rising on stilts above the water. Here you can find a local island life untouched by tourism. I found a small shop int the fisher village which rents scooters. There is only one road at Pulau Tuba, so you can’t get lost on your island exploring tour.
If you want to live like Robinson Crusoe for a while, you can book the bungalows at Wild Pasir Panjang here. One night in this paradise costs you US$ 43 for a double room.
